Oslo & Copenhagen 2023
I took a quick trip to Norway and Denmark last week to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and see a part of the world I’ve always wanted to visit. Norway, Denmark, & Sweden are major knitting cultures and I’ve been inspired by traditional and modern from each of those countries. When I learned my boyfriend would be attending a conference in Oslo at the end of September, it was the perfect time to make this trip happen.
Copenhagen had been in my sights for years now but Oslo was pretty unknown to me. We barely scratched the surface of two major historical cities, but for 2 nights in each town. I feel like we made the most of it.
Oslo
Itinerary:
Stayed in Lillestrøm (a quiet suburb of Oslo)
Visited Akershus Fortress + the Resistance Museum followed by Oslo City Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded.
Ate a simple cafe lunch, dinner at Lobby
Ferry to Copenhagen
Ferry is operated by DFDS and is overnight passage from Oslo to Copenhagen. Departure is 4pm with a 10am arrival to Copenhagen.
Tips: Food options on board are plentiful. Skip the dinner buffet, but grab a spot for the breakfast. Skip the rooftop bar for departure and go to the side decks on floors 6 or 7. Splurge on a midlevel price range room to be higher up on the ship.
Copenhagen
Itinerary:
Stayed Scandic Copenhagen across from the central train station (breakfast included)
Visited City Center + Christiansborg Castle and the Danish National Museum, Nygard, lunch at Halifax Burger on Larsbjornstrade
Ate: Lunch: Halifax Burger on Larsbjornstrade and Tivoli Dining Hall. Dinner: Fleish in the meatpacking district. Ice cream from Ismagareit (get the strawberry!) Beers at Mikeller and Bastard Board Game Cafe.
Saw: Matenee performance of the Turn of the Screw by Benjamin Britten at Gamle Scene, aka The Old Stage
Yarn Shopping: Uldstedet and Sostrene Grene
